Ray Polanco Jr. goes back home to the Bronx, donates $5000 to AMSII with adidas and Foot Locker’s ASTERISK Program

at 17 being obsessed with sneakers, i always tried to figure out how i could turn that into coming back home and contributing to where i come from. i’m a proud Bronx native who’s always valued being fresh and being about the community… whole heartedly i can say this is the greatest accomplishment of my career thus far.

in partnership with adidas and Footlocker under the ASTERISK Program, i flew back to my hometown on march 20th to visit New Visions Charter School for Advanced Math and Science II in the South Bronx and donated $5000, four pairs of adidas TRESC Run sneakers before they release and six $100 gift cards towards a science trip that sends nine students to Arizona in efforts to study how climate changes affects Flammulated Owls.

AMSII is now over their goal by $2,026, but i urge you to keep donating because this is an annual program and every dollar helps more kids see life beyond the Bronx.

i could’ve sat on my couch and just donated the money, but that’s not what it’s about for me. my world changed once i got to travel outside of the Bronx and i know how many of us in these neighborhoods barely ever get to do that. i really wanted to get to know each student, understand their interests and spend dedicated time with the entire group. i seriously couldn’t imagine being as bright as these students back when i was 17. i explained to them that as an adult, i continuously acknowledge how my senior year in high school was a pivotal moment. it was the longest shortest year of my life because reality sets in the second you graduate and there are no more excuses in life. you cannot wake up late and get a pass… you have to go get all the success you’ve always dreamt about. we laughed, spoke about careers, favorite rappers, sneakers, the definition of healthy relationships and topics about the environment. finally, i stressed the importance of appreciating every moment, every person you sit next to and speak to because when you look back in 10 years you’ll realize how everyone and every thing contributed to your journey.

thank you to AMSII, Principle Manessis, Mr. Greene, Ms. Pizer and the rest of the faculty for your positive energy and efforts in empowering children in the South Bronx. it means the world to me and i’m proud that brands like adidas along with footlocker understand how important the community is to be able to do something like this.

AMSII is a Charter High School is a leader within the New York State with +93% graduation rates and 96% college enrollment rates.

as i always love to say… The Bronx Stay Prospering.
